Epoch Biodesign is a well-funded, venture-backed start-up using biology to make every type of plastic recyclable.

Using a unique combination of AI, synthetic biology and green chemistry, we are scaling enzymatic recycling processes to transform unrecyclable plastics into new sustainable materials and chemical building blocks. These processes yield substantial reductions in carbon emissions and prevent waste from entering landfill or the environment. They also generate disruptive unit economics, allowing us to scale our solutions quickly to solve this urgent challenge.

Role

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Process Technician to support the day-to-day operations of our lab and pilot plant. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with a technical or scientific background who enjoys working in a practical, fast-moving environment.

This is not a research role - we are looking for someone who can keep things running smoothly and support production processes. It is not suitable for those seeking an academic or research-focused career, including those with a master's or PhD.

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient laboratory space, and is committed to the smooth execution of routine process activities.

Candidates must be ready to start immediately (within a month) and have the legal right to work in the UK.

Epoch Biodesign head office is in London.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the lab and pilot plant run efficiently every day
• Manage stock levels – order supplies and receive deliveries
• Keep track of inventory and support audits
• Help with equipment cleaning, maintenance, and calibration
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Manage waste disposal properly and according to safety rules
• Track samples and arrange shipping when needed

Experience

• 3+ years in a lab or industrial environment
• Hands-on experience in process or chemical manufacturing
• Experience working with standard procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, etc.
• Comfortable working in a startup or fast-paced setting

Skills & Mindset

• Good teamwork and communication skills
• Organised and detail-oriented
• Interest in sustainability and biotech

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
• Experience with Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs)
• Understanding of COSHH regulations
• Full, clean UK driving license
