Job summary

Chemring Energetics UK Ltd is seeking a Process Support Engineer to design, develop and support safe manufacturing processes for new and existing products. The role emphasizes driving process excellence across production, quality, and supply chain while prioritising safety and cost efficiency.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver robust manufacturing processes, support trials, and provide technical assessments on supplier changes.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in engineering related to Manufacturing.
  • Experience in production/manufacturing environments.
  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge desirable.

Job description

Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers. An exciting opportunity is available for a Process Support Engineer to join our team.

Reporting to the Operations Department, the Process Support Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting safe manufacturing processes for both new and existing products. This role is critical in ensuring products are manufactured to the required quality standards while meeting business expectations for cost, efficiency, and delivery. The successful candidate will take a holistic approach to manufacturing and provide through-life support across the product lifecycle.

We're looking for an experienced Process Support Engineer who can identify opportunities for improvement and drive process excellence across manufacturing operations. At CEUK, you will work as part of a highly skilled team, collaborating with engineering, production, quality, and supply chain functions to develop and maintain safe, efficient, and robust manufacturing processes. With safety, innovation, and continuous improvement at the core, you'll play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of our products.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:
  • Carry out all activities in full compliance with H&SE legislation, company policies, and procedures.
  • Report any unsafe acts or conditions observed using the Incident Reporting System in accordance with Health and Safety responsibilities.
  • Design plant and process layouts, including jigs and tooling, in collaboration with Product Development Engineering and the Drawing Office.
  • Lead teams in carrying out risk assessments for manufacturing processes and trial activities.
  • Implement safe, lean manufacturing methods and ensure engineering design changes are managed in accordance with change control procedures.
  • Review existing products and processes using tools such as Process FMEA and statistical analysis to develop continuous improvement programmes.
  • Support and lead root cause analysis investigations and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain product design history files, including data packs and Bills of Materials.
  • Produce operating instructions, route cards, manufacturing quality plans, and deliver training to production personnel.
  • Support Production Readiness Reviews and product handovers into manufacturing.
  • Provide technical assessments relating to supplier and material changes in collaboration with SMEs and key stakeholders.
  • Analyse technical data and provide conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and communicate technical information to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Develop safe and effective plans and strategies to support trials and investigations.
  • Provide engineering support to production teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant industry legislation and standards.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with customers, suppliers, and third parties.
  • Support critical manufacturing projects and wider business objectives as required.
  • Assist with bid preparation and technical requirements to support business development activities.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of engineering processes, including systems engineering, requirements management, validation and verification, product safety, and product certification.
  • Experience working within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Engineering design and problem-solving experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge (Green Belt desirable).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, root cause analysis, and manufacturing optimisation activities.
