Job summary

YTL UK is seeking a Process Scientist to join a multidisciplinary team focused on meeting environmental compliance for water recycling centres in Somerset. The role blends office and field work, with travel across the region and base in Chilton Trinity.

You will work to ensure quality standards and regulatory permits are met, analyze data, and lead initiatives to reduce costs while supporting colleagues across the business.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in science, environmental or engineering field.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting and wastewater treatment processes.
  • COSHH experience would be highly desirable.
  • IT literacy and comfortable with data analysis tools.
  • Valid full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure water recycling compliance and process performance with local ops teams.
  • Monitor and optimize sewage treatment processes.
  • Provide process support for urgent operational issues.
  • Support staff to protect and maintain quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering/construction on new plant installs.
  • Liaise with Environment Agency and other stakeholders.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Scientist to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring we meet environmental compliance standards for our water recycling centres within Somerset.

If you have wastewater process science experience working in the water, environment or food manufacturing industry, we want to hear from you!

This role involves a mixture of office and field-based work and is primarily based in Chilton Trinity and the surrounding area. It will involve travel across the wider region of Somerset at times.

What you'll do

Our Process Scientists help ensurethat we not only comply with all the regulatory requirements but also make sure there is no detrimental impact on the environment through our operations.

You will join the Scienceteam, taking responsibility for ensuring water recycling compliance and process performance with your local operations team.

In addition, there will be regular engagement with colleagues across the wider business on a variety of interesting projects.

As a Process Scientist, you will ensure compliance with quality standards at water recycling centres, including numerical, descriptive and flow permits. You will plan and install measures to improve quality and lead initiatives to reduce operational costs.

Additionally, you will be involved in:

  • monitoring and optimising the effectiveness of sewage treatment processes
  • providing process support in urgent operational issues
  • providing technical support to operational staff to protect and maintain quality
  • innovating new operational practices
  • collaborating with engineering and construction colleagues to support the installation and commissioning of new plant to meet tighter regulatory requirements
  • liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency.
What you'll need

You will need to be an experienced Process Scientist with knowledge on monitoring and optimising processes to meet regulatory permits, understand the importance of environmental regulations and have a methodical and analytical approach to your work. You will also act as a role model for health and safety.

In addition, you will have:

  • a degree or equivalent level of experience in a science, environmental or engineering subject
  • sound knowledge of environmental permitting and wastewater treatment processes
  • COSHH experience would be highly desirable
  • IT literacy
  • data analysis skills – comfortable using Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level
  • a valid full UK driving license.
