Process Safety Engineer

Location: Felling, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear NE10

Job Purpose

Support the maintenance and development of site safety standards, focusing on process safety within our coatings manufacturing operation in Felling.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collaborate across functions to assess process changes before implementation.
2. Prepare and revise the site’s COMAH safety report and modification reports.
3. Support regulatory compliance and liaise with regulators (HSE and EA).
4. Evaluate new process operations and equipment requirements.
5. Design engineering projects to ensure safety and efficiency.
6. Provide expertise in functional safety, risk quantification, and hazardous area management.
7. Conduct hazard studies and risk assessments for new business processes.
8. Ensure SOP/HSE rules are followed.
9. Investigate process safety incidents.

Minimum Requirements

• Degree in engineering, chemistry, or related discipline.
• Experience in industry, preferably in process safety.
• Knowledge of hazard studies (HAZOP), functional safety, ATEX/DSEAR, risk assessment techniques (LOPA), and major accident hazards legislation (COMAH/Seveso).
