Job summary

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Operator to manage and maintain several wastewater treatment works and pumping stations across the region, in accordance with environmental permits and our Quality Management System. You will operate sites, monitor performance, and support safety and environmental objectives from Llanfoist.

The role requires a proactive, safety-conscious individual with strong regulatory awareness and computer literacy.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience of compliance with health and safety standards.
• Enthusiastic about putting customers first daily.
• Awareness of regulatory bodies such as Environment Agency/NRW.
• Computer systems literate.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment sites in line with environmental permits, QMS and Health & Safety requirements.
• Identify and undertake reactive work; liaise with multi-discipline teams for repairs.
• Identify pollution risks and take measures to prevent pollution.
• Coordinate with area Supervisor and team for operating activities and improvements.
• Ensure safety, housekeeping and compliance with quality systems.
• Cover for annual leave and sickness; participate in standby rota.

What you’ll be responsible for

Across our region we have 833 wastewater treatment sites, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining several of our Wastewater Treatment Works and associated sewage pumping stations in line with environmental permits to company Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Health and Safety requirements. This will include:

• Taking responsibility for operating sites in line with environmental permits to protect environment; general maintenance of equipment and site, taking effluent samples to monitor and improve biological performance
• Taking responsibility for identifying and where applicable undertaking reactive work as required. Raising reactive work for equipment when required and liaising with multi-discipline craft team on facilitating repairs
• Identifying potential pollution risks from our assets, taking measures to prevent pollution, and escalating when required
• Liaising and coordinating with the area Supervisor and team members on operating activities and continuous improvement for the area
• Taking responsibility for personal and colleagues’ safety through compliance with company Health and Safety procedures
• Understanding and adhering to quality system requirements to ensure audit compliance
• Taking ownership of sites, ensuring house-keeping standards are maintained and defects reported
• Willing to develop and learn within the role and have the flexibility and competence to operate and maintain multiple sites
• Participating in arrangements and cover for annual leave and sickness for area of operation
• Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business
• Participating in out of hours standby rota.

• Multi-site mobile working within defined geographical area, no home working.
• Working 1 weekend in 4. (8 hours Saturday and 8 hours Sunday.) & 260 hours of uncommitted & committed hours planned work time with additional earning potential of up to £3000 a year
