Job summary

Actemium Design, part of VINCI Energies, is seeking experienced Senior/Principal Process Engineers for opportunities in Chorley. You will lead design activities, collaborate across disciplines, and apply expert process engineering knowledge to deliver compliant, safe, and cost-effective solutions in nuclear, chemical, energy, and heavy industries.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in chemical engineering or related field.
• Substantial experience in process design and engineering for regulated industries.
• Proficient with process engineering software and tools (e.g. Aspen HYSYS, AutoCAD).
• Strong knowledge of UK/international standards and best practices.
• Experience delivering PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets and calculations.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support high-value process engineering design solutions (PFDs, P&IDs, heat/mass balances).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated, compliant designs.
• Apply expertise to design safe, cost-effective processes while meeting regulatory requirements.
• Perform technical calculations, modelling and simulations to verify performance.
• Participate in HAZOPs, LOPA, safety reviews, and risk management.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers within a high-performing team.
• Prepare and update technical documentation, proposals and client reports.

Senior / Principal Process Engineer

Main Responsibilities

• Lead or support the delivery of high-value process engineering design solutions, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), heat and mass balances, process calculations, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—mechanical, EC&I, SHEQ, and project management to ensure fully integrated and compliant solutions for clients.
• Apply expert knowledge of process engineering principles, process systems, and regulatory requirements to design robust, safe and cost-effective processes.
• Undertake rigorous technical calculations, modelling and simulations to verify performance and ensure regulatory, client, and stakeholder requirements are met.
• Actively participate in HAZOPs, LOPA studies, safety and constructability reviews, and other risk management activities.
• Mentor and develop less experienced engineers, supporting a collaborative, knowledgeable and high-performing team environment.
• Prepare, review and update technical documentation, proposals, procurement specifications and client reports.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Degree-level qualification (or equivalent relevant experience) in chemical engineering, process engineering or a related discipline.
• Substantial experience in process design and engineering delivery, ideally within regulated industries (nuclear, chemical, energy, oil & gas, or heavy/process industry).
• Proficient in process engineering software and tools (e.g. Aspen HYSYS, AutoCAD, process simulation packages).
• Strong understanding of UK and international process engineering standards, legislation, and best practice.
• Proven ability to produce, check and validate process design deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets and calculations.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to colleagues, clients, and stakeholders from varied backgrounds.
• Organised and analytical, with a focus on quality, risk management and continuous improvement.
• Willingness and ability to travel to client and project sites as required.
