Job summary

Actemium Design, part of VINCI Energies, is seeking Mechanical Designers and Engineers at all levels to join our design offices in the UK. You will work on regulated industry projects spanning concept to detail design, owning elements of equipment layout, 3D models, and calculations.

Qualifications

• Qualified in mechanical engineering (Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent).
• Background in mechanical design in regulated sectors (nuclear, energy, oil & gas, process, heavy industry).
• Strong grasp of mechanical principles, systems, and plant/equipment design.
• Experience producing or checking 2D drawings and 3D models with CAD software.
• Knowledge of UK and international standards and regulations.
• Clear communication with diverse teams and clients.
• Analytical, detail-focused, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Full UK driving licence or willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to high-quality mechanical design deliverables (layout drawings, 3D models, calculations, reports).
• Collaborate with EC&I, process, and project management teams for integrated solutions.
• Apply mechanical knowledge to engineer safe, robust, cost-effective designs.
• Perform engineering calculations and design validations for fitness-for-purpose and compliance.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, safety studies, and constructability workshops.
• Review technical documents, drawings, and calculations; support design quality improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers and foster a proactive learning environment.
• Support preparation of technical specs, documentation, procurement packages, and client proposals.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to the development of high-quality mechanical design deliverables, such as equipment layout drawings, detailed component designs, 3D CAD models, calculations, and technical reports.

• Share knowledge, mentor junior engineers and designers, and contribute to a proactive learning environment.

• Support the preparation of technical specifications, project documentation, procurement packages, and client proposals.

Essential Skills & Experience for Mechanical Design Engineers

• Relevant qualification in mechanical engineering (Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent experience).

• Proven background in mechanical design ideally within regulated sectors — for example, nuclear, energy, oil & gas, process or heavy industry.

• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, mechanical systems and assemblies, and plant/equipment design.

• Experience producing or checking 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).

• Knowledge of UK and international engineering standards and statutory regulations.

• Ability to communicate effectively—explaining concepts clearly and engaging with diverse teams and clients.

• Analytical and detail-focused, with problem-solving skills and a drive for continuous improvement.

• Full UK driving licence or ability to travel to client/project sites as needed.
