We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer to join the East Coast Production team (Bridlington, Scarborough, and Whitby) at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

What We Do

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it's so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment, and changing expectations from customers mean that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Water Production is a key part of how we plan to meet these changing expectations.

Water Production is a close-knit dynamic environment, where water is continuously treated across the 50 Water Treatment Works to produce clean and safe drinking water. These facilities use various chemicals and processes, involving mechanical and electrical equipment. This is an operational role, not a design or supervisory Process Engineer role.

Where You Fit In

As our Process Engineer, you will:

  • Be based at a Water Treatment Works, handling operational and plant maintenance activities to ensure water quality. Tasks include cleaning and calibrating instrumentation, water quality checks, fault finding, trend data analysis, cleaning tanks, small pipework repairs, working with electrical and mechanical teams, accepting chemical deliveries, and ensuring compliance with water quality standards, environmental regulations, health and safety, and process safety.
  • Lead chemical and process optimisation activities to meet production plans and manage costs, minimizing service outages, asset failure, and operational recovery issues.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements, issue work control documentation, adhere to safety systems, identify hazards, and implement mitigation measures to ensure HSE compliance and statutory requirements.
  • Support operational actions during incidents, escalate issues appropriately, and embrace modernisation and asset management initiatives.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Practical, hands-on approach, with water treatment understanding preferred but not essential. Willingness to learn and awareness of HSE obligations. Analytical with fault-finding skills and data review capabilities.
  • Attention to detail, proficiency with IT systems, knowledge of risk policies, and openness to new technologies and ways of working.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in regulated environments or water/wastewater sectors is desirable.
  • Must pass medical criteria for working in confined spaces, including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and spirometry tests. Contact us if you wish to discuss these requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points, as travel to sites is required.
  • Flexibility to respond to out-of-hours incidents on a rota basis.

We support flexible working and job sharing to help balance work and home life.

If you have relevant experience and want to help us deliver excellent service while protecting the environment, apply today to explore a career with Yorkshire Water.

Closing Date - 11th June 2025
