Job summary

LanthaGen Bio is seeking a Process Chemist to own chemistry around leaching and downstream processing for metal recovery from complex waste streams. The role balances leaching development with downstream product formulation, including oxide and nanoparticle production.

The position is onsite in Manchester, with a 32-hour work week, 12-month fixed term, and a salary band of £38,000–£42,000. Benefits include parental leave, volunteering, birthday leave, and a £500 development budget.

Qualifications

• Strong wet-lab chemistry background with hands-on handling of strong acids and hazardous materials.
• Experience with metal dissolution, leaching, or hydrometallurgical processing.
• Purification and inorganic synthesis knowledge (precipitation, filtration, calcination).
• Commitment to safety through COSHH, risk assessments, and SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Develop leaching routes for industrial residues and complex matrices.
• Optimize leaching parameters for metal yield and selectivity.
• Characterise metal-bearing liquors using ICP‑OES/MS, titration, and pH/redox control.
• Develop biologically compatible leachates for downstream protein capture.
• Own safe handling, storage, and disposal of acids, oxidants, and leachates with SOPs.
