Job summary

Vivid Resourcing is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join East Sussex council on an initial 12-month contract. The role focuses on housing enforcement and compliance within the private sector, with strong ground-running responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have proven HHSRS inspection experience, residential enforcement expertise, and the ability to manage complex cases. Flexible working with home-based duties is offered, with site inspections as required.

Qualifications

• Private Sector Housing experience with a local authority.
• Strong knowledge of HHSRS, housing enforcement, and HMO licensing.
• Ability to manage complex cases independently.
• Senior Officer level experience is highly desirable.
• Availability for 4–5 days per week, with preference for Mon-Fri.
• Able to respond to urgent service demands during working days and attend inspections.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking HHSRS inspections and producing associated reports.
• Carrying out mandatory HMO licensing inspections.
• Managing cases relating to the Renters' Rights Act and wider private sector housing legislation.
• Investigating housing compliance issues and taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary.
• Handling a range of additional private sector housing matters including statutory nuisances.
• Electrical Safety Regulations, MEES, and general housing standards and compliance work.
