Job summary

Stonehouse Recruitment is working with a Local Authority in the East Midlands to recruit a Private Sector Housing Officer. The role is hybrid and focuses on inspecting properties, investigating complaints, advising landlords and tenants, and taking enforcement action where standards are not met.

The successful candidate will manage enforcement cases from initial investigation through to resolution, liaise with landlords and residents, and apply HHSRS to assess housing conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience in Local Authority Private Sector Housing, Housing Enforcement or a similar regulatory environment.
• Strong practical knowledge and experience of HHSRS.
• Experience carrying out property inspections and housing condition assessments.
• Understanding of private sector housing legislation and enforcement procedures.
• Experience drafting statutory notices and preparing legal documentation.
• Ability to manage enforcement cases from initial investigation through to resolution.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, where required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out HHSRS inspections and assess housing conditions.
• Investigate complaints relating to privately rented accommodation.
• Respond to housing enquiries and service requests from residents and other stakeholders.
• Identify hazards and determine appropriate remedial or enforcement action.
• Prepare and serve statutory notices and other enforcement documentation.
• Build and maintain robust legal case files where formal action is required.
• Liaise with landlords, tenants, letting agents and other professionals to achieve compliance.
• Manage own caseload and progress cases within appropriate timescales.
• Provide clear and professional advice on housing standards, legislation and regulatory requirements.

This is a hands-on housing enforcement role covering a broad range of private sector housing matters. You will be responsible for inspecting properties, investigating complaints, advising landlords and tenants, and taking appropriate enforcement action where housing conditions fail to meet required standards.
