Job summary

Serco Group plc is seeking an Operational Support Officer to join our prison operations team in Uttoxeter. You will support security gates, escort prisoners, supervise staff and contractors, and provide administrative and communications support as part of a rota-based, 24/7 operation.

Starting salary is £25,889 per annum, rising to £26,203 after one year's service, with benefits including free onsite parking, subsidised meals, gym access, pension match up to 6%, 28 days leave, and ongoing

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills with clear report writing abilities.
• Strong English and Maths educational background is preferred.
• Experience in vehicle-related sectors, outdoor work, or roles requiring walking or physical activity is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate security gate and supervise entry points.
• Escort prisoners, staff and contractors as required.
• Provide administrative and communications support to the prison operations team.
• Assist with rota-based scheduling and daily operational tasks.

You should have great communications skills and a good educational level in English and Maths as report writing, and numerical abilities are a key part of the role. We are ideally looking for candidates who have experience working within a vehicle-related sector, outdoor work environments, or roles that involve regular walking or physical activity. Examples of suitable backgrounds include: Vehicle inspection, transport, logistics, or recovery work Outdoor operational roles Roles involving consistent walking or movement Parcel sorting or delivery positions Any job where candidates are used to being on their feet, working outdoors, and managing physical tasks.

Starting salary of £25,889 per annum, plus Serco benefits per annum rising to £26,203 upon a years' service
