Job summary

HMP Grendon is seeking prison officers to join our team in the security-focused environment. The role involves completing recruitment stages, undergoing medical and fitness testing, and working within a high-security setting where safety standards are essential.

Initial training is 37 hours per week with options of 37, 39 or 41 hours thereafter; salaries reflect weekly hours and increase with hours worked, along with Civil Service benefits and a comprehensive pension plan.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years old at the start of employment.
• Meet the Civil Service nationality requirements.
• Pass a medical and fitness assessment.
• Meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes.
• Meet a suitable standard of hearing for safety reasons.
• Tattoos allowed but must not be offensive or intimidating; facial tattoos generally not acceptable unless cultural/medical reasons.

Responsibilities

• Complete the online tests at stage 1 to assess basic judgement and numerical skills.
• Proceed to stage 2 values based assessment (VBA) if successful.
• Progress to the Online Assessment Centre (OAC) after VBA if selected.
• Complete medical and fitness tests including eyesight, hearing, and basic health screening.
• Salary will reflect weekly hours (37, 39, or 41 hours) and training is 37 hours per week.
