- Work closely with the Healthcare team and multi-disciplinary team members in the effective and efficient delivery of primary health care provision to the population at HMP Cardiff, through the monitoring and maintenance of excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development
- Be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of staff by acting as a mentor and preceptor and being part of the VBA process in reviewing Band 3s and 5s
- Where applicable, take charge of the department on a regular basis
- Be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise registered and/or unregistered staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment
- Be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified
- Be required to develop expertise in, and lead on, a specialist area of care within HMP Cardiff e.g. asthma, diabetes, Blood Borne Viruses
- Be required to carry out and develop nurse-led clinics in area of specialty, including reviewing patient histories, undertake relevant examinations and tests, organize any necessary treatment and onward referrals to other health and care colleagues/partners when required.
- In partnership with other professionals provide excellent patient/prisoner care in line with Fundamentals of Care. This process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with UHB policies
- Implement a nursing plan for an assigned group of patients/prisoners, indicating assessment and re-assessment formulated for individual care plans
- Provided clinical advice as required to all staff groups, carers and junior colleagues
- Ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to NMC and UHB standards
- Ensure the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of patients/prisoners, relatives and colleagues are respected at all times
- Participate in conducting nursing audit to achieve the agreed standards
- In conjunction with the staff team contribute to developing and maintaining a department ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent nursing care
- Provide a holistic approach to prisoner/patient care and maintain excellent clinical standards of nursing practice within the ethos of the department using research and evidence based practice
- Under the supervision of the Senior nurse or their deputies, contribute to and participate in the process of setting goals and benchmarking standards of care; collaborating with other members of the team to ensure the prisoner/patient’s needs are met to a consistently high standard.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
