Job summary

Spectrum Community Health CIC is recruiting a Healthcare Support Worker to join the healthcare team at HMP Liverpool, a Category B local prison. The role covers medication safety, primary care clinics, observations for detox patients, and health assessments for new arrivals.

You'll work alongside registered nurses in a prison setting; entry routes include NVQ Level 3, Care Certificate or final-year nursing studies. Shifts are arranged via the bank portal.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience.
• NHS Care Certificate or relevant clinical experience.
• Final-year Registered Nursing degree student (alternative route).
• Experience with complex health needs and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist with medication rounds, including controlled drugs verification checks.
• Run primary care clinics including phlebotomy, ECGs, smoking cessation reviews and sexual health screenings.
• Support patients through detoxification alongside registered nurses, completing regular clinical observations.
• Register new arrivals in reception, take baseline observations and score clinical assessments to identify immediate health needs.
• Deliver dry blood spot testing across the site as part of a blood-borne virus elimination programme.
• Deliver personal care and tailored social care packages on the enhanced primary care unit.
• Complete welfare checks and wing-based reviews.
• Provide social care for patients on the inpatient unit.
