Job summary

Rethink Mental Illness invites applications for a Counsellor role based at HMP Millsike, Full Sutton, York. You will deliver brief 1:1 and group counselling within an integrated prison mental health team, following Step 2 IAPT guidance and aiming to reduce reoffending.

Working Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00, you will assess risk, monitor progress with PHQ-9 and GAD-7, and maintain high‑quality records. Travel may be required occasionally.

Qualifications

• Diploma in therapeutic counselling required and BACP accreditation where possible.
• Post-qualification IAPT or stepped-care experience within an IAPT or similar service.
• Strong knowledge of PHQ-9, GAD-7 and risk assessment; assessment and outcome monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Deliver brief 1:1 and group counselling for depression and life-events.
• Assess referrals, risk, and stepping clients up or down as needed.
• Maintain high-quality clinical records and enter data into systems.
