Job summary

Rethink Mental Illness is recruiting a Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to work within TEWV services at HMP Durham. The role focuses on low-intensity CBT-based interventions, stepping up and down care, and supporting prisoners' recovery goals.

You will work 0800–1600, Monday to Friday, with travel to prison sites as required. The post requires PWP accreditation, IAPT experience, and strong communication and collaboration skills to engage diverse clients.

Qualifications

• Qualified as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) per IAPT Low Intensity National Programme.
• Accredited PWP with BACP or BPS.
• Post-qualification experience delivering the full range of IAPT low-intensity interventions at Step 2.
• Experience in a stepped care service and achieving recovery outcomes.
• Knowledge of assessment, screening, referral processes, record-keeping, and evidence-based brief interventions.
• Ability to build therapeutic relationships and respect diversity.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage referrals, determine suitability, and ensure appropriate care levels.
• Support recovery and self-management, helping clients set goals and manage risks.
• Deliver low-intensity interventions such as guided self-help and psycho-educational support.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and coordinate step-up/step-down arrangements.
• Maintain high standards of clinical practice, record outcomes, and uphold confidentiality.
• Contribute to service performance, minimise waiting times and support reporting.
• Build partnerships with agencies to ensure continuity of care post-release.
• Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Engage in supervision and personal development, maintain registration, and stay updated.
• Represent Rethink Mental Illness values with integrity and flexibility.
