Job summary

Costain seeks a Principal Process Engineer to join the Asset Optimisation Team, delivering wastewater process engineering consultancy across the UK. The role focuses on strategic project support, leading teams in asset optimisation and proposing practical, digital process solutions.

Preference for experience with large, activated sludge or membrane treatment plants. The position is predominantly home-based with regular site visits and client meetings, ideally from the Northwest region

Qualifications

Significant UK experience in the design, operation, and optimisation of wastewater treatment plants.
Experience of large, activated sludge plant design and or membrane treatment processes.
Knowledge of the UK water utility asset life cycle process.
Project management experience.
A background in an engineering consultancy or contracting design environment as well as operational utility experience.
Ability to independently drive teams and projects.
Proactive, self-motivated and solutions biased.
Strong interpersonal skills, collaborate and ability to influence senior colleagues.

Responsibilities

Lead teams in the execution of process optimisation studies and solution triage, with accountability for quality, budget, and schedule.
Develop process optimisation initiatives and solutions at site and programme level.
Provide technical thought leadership and strategic consultancy to clients and partners.
Collaborate with business development and marketing to develop and tender new opportunities.
Review process design deliverables such as calculations, drawings, reports, and proposals.
Line management and mentoring of more junior engineers.
Grow team capability and service to AMP Frameworks.
Lead troubleshooting and embedding solutions.
