Job summary

BakerHicks in the United Kingdom is seeking a Principal Transport Planner to lead complex transport planning projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction while mentoring a growing team within a multidisciplinary environment.

You will shape transport planning from concept through implementation across sectors including Power, Custodial, Defence and Development Planning, steering strategy, modelling, reporting, and stakeholder engagement while driving innovation and securing

Qualifications

• Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering or related field; postgraduate qualification desirable.
• Chartered or working towards chartered status (CIHT, TPS, ICE).
• Experience leading transport planning projects across multiple sectors.
• Strong background in transport modelling, policy, and assessments.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and engage diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in GIS, CAD, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign; public consultations a plus.
• Knowledge of Active Travel, Bus Priority, LCWIPs and Urban Design; UK security clearance eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead and deliver complex transport planning projects with quality and client satisfaction.
• Provide strategic transport advice on assessments, master planning, policy, and sustainable travel.
• Oversee technical reporting including TA, Travel Plans, Construction Traffic Management Plans, and EIA inputs.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop integrated transport strategies.
• Manage and mentor transport planners, supporting development and delivery excellence.
• Contribute to business development through proposals, client relations, and identifying opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards and internal QA; champion innovation.

As part of a dynamic team, you will spearhead the development of transport planning solutions from concept through to implementation. You will work across a variety of sectors, including Power, Custodial, Defence, and Development Planning, ensuring integration of best practice and strategic guidance in every project.

You will have the freedom to drive forward initiatives, collaborate with key stakeholders, and play a pivotal role in supporting the continued growth of our Transport Planning capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee technical reporting including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Construction Traffic Management Plans, and EIA inputs

About You

• Qualifications Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, or related field (postgraduate qualification desirable)
• Chartered or working towards chartered status (e.g. CIHT, TPS, ICE) Full UK Driving Licence
• Experience & Skills Proven experience leading transport planning projects across multiple sectors
• Strong background in transport modelling, policy, and assessments
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and engage with diverse stakeholders
• Proficiency in relevant tools such as GIS, CAD, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign is a plus Skilled in technical reporting, project management, and public consultations
• Knowledge in areas such as Active Travel, Bus Priority, LCWIPs, Public Realm, and Urban Design would be an advantage
• Eligibility for UK Security Clearance is required to work in sectors such as public, defence and nuclear.
