This position is based at an Edinburgh site and will require working within a multi-disciplined engineering team delivering high-quality technical solutions.

The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of engineering activities, including the design and development of ATE systems, integration testing, qualification, certification, and customer acceptance. This will involve close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, other functions within the Integrated Project Team (IPT), and engineering subcontractors.

What you’ll do as a Principal Test Equipment Engineer:

  • Play a key role in the creation and delivery of technical solutions within a defined work package, ensuring all stakeholder requirements are met
  • Develop and deploy test programs
  • Integrate hardware and software for test programs
  • Design systems, interfaces, and cable assemblies
  • Collaborate closely with IPT functions, provide production support, and liaise with external stakeholders
  • Apply appropriate tools and techniques for test equipment design, offering guidance in your area of expertise
  • Resolve emerging issues by identifying and implementing solutions; escalate complex risks and support definition of mitigation strategies
  • Build and maintain networks both within and outside the organisation, promoting a culture of best practice
  • Coach, mentor, and develop other engineers in the wider application of engineering

What we need from you:

  • Demonstrated experience of technical solution development within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in integration using software languages such as CVI, C, and C++
  • Familiarity with NI TestStand environments
  • LF/Digital and RF/microwave hardware integration experience
  • Experience with offsite or overseas test integration
  • Hands-on experience across the full hardware design process and lifecycle
  • Knowledge of product safety legislation
  • Ability to capture and analyse stakeholder needs to shape future-ready solutions
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with adaptability in dynamic environments
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Commitment to maintaining engineering best practices and openness to ideas from academia and other industries
  • Proven ability to coach and develop others
  • Self-motivated with a strong aptitude for problem solving and driving issues to resolution

Intrinsic Factors:

  • This is a site-based role in Edinburgh, primarily involving ATE systems, with occasional travel required to customer sites across the UK and overseas
  • Full-time hours and flexible shift patterns in a demanding environment are expected
  • Due to the nature of the work, applicants must:
