Job summary

Siemens Mobility Limited is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer for its CIS business within Rail Infrastructure. In Ashby-de-la-Zouch or Chippenham, you will lead Engineering DevOps across portfolios, delivering automated tooling to support safe, reliable software and hardware delivery in rail environments.

You will implement IaC, ensure traceability and auditability, and drive maturity of DevOps practices while aligning with safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience in (non-software centric) DevOps or systems/tooling engineering roles within rail and transportation, supporting engineering delivery.
  • CI/CD tooling with controlled release and approval mechanisms.
  • Management of tooling in an IEC 62443 / NIS2 compliant environment.
  • Operational Technology in safety-related and safety-critical environments.
  • Experience with SCADA, control and automation systems, signalling, and/or operational technology (desirable).
  • Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines for systems supporting SIL and non-SIL safety-related applications, including gated approvals and auditable controls.
  • Implementing “Infrastructure as Code” to ensure deterministic, secure, repeatable environments that support and provide safety evidence and configuration control.
  • Ensuring DevOps tooling and processes support robust traceability, version control, and auditability aided by a robust change-control triage and deployment process.
  • Providing engineering lifecycle evidence to support safety cases, assurance activities, and independent assessment.
  • Providing portfolio-level leadership across engineering delivery teams to enable predictable, controlled releases into operational environments and improve consistency of tooling adoption across programmes.
  • Driving Engineering DevOps maturity through a prioritised roadmap that balances operational need, portfolio risk, assurance requirements and long-term business value.

In our Communication & Information Systems (CIS) business, we deliver Rail Infrastructure systems for customers across the UK and internationally. Our portfolio includes the provision of event driven control and monitoring solutions tailored for Centralised SCADA & Line-wide systems, Stations & Utilities, Power SCADA, Control Systems, Tunnel Ventilation, M&A SCADA, and many more solutions. We undertake the full engineering delivery life cycle across all projects.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Siemens Mobility as a Principal Systems Engineer for our CIS business within Rail Infrastructure. This position will be performing the role of Engineering DevOps sat across all Engineering Portfolios within the CIS business. For this role, you will have a base location of either Ashby-de-la-Zouch or Chippenham. In this role, you will provide specialist engineering tooling to support the safe, efficient, reliable, and controlled delivery of software and hardware-based systems within rail and transport environments, subject to safety and integrity (SIL) assurance requirements.

The role focuses on automation, deployment reliability, availability and operational resilience, while also shaping the Engineering DevOps tooling roadmap across Portfolios to ensure investment, standardisation and tooling decisions support delivery performance, assurance obligations and long-term business objectives within regulated Engineering Delivery functions.
