Job summary

WSP is seeking a Principal Engineer for its Structures Investigation Group to lead investigations, determine structural condition, and guide remediation actions. You will work across diverse projects in the UK, coordinating resources, schedules and client expectations.

You will mentor junior engineers, share expertise, and help drive technical excellence while supporting career development and innovation within the team.

Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or relevant associated field.
• Membership of a Professional Institution such as ICE, I Struct E, BINDT or similar.
• BICS competence, or working towards this, would be highly advantageous.
• Appreciation of sustainable construction practices.
• Experience in Design and Build Contracts management with Contractors.
• Knowledge of Highway and Railway design standards and Eurocodes.
• Experience in inspection, investigation, management, design and assessment of highway/railway structures/assets.

Responsibilities

• Deliver detailed studies and inspection and investigation reports of engineered structures across the UK.
• Plan, organise, execute and report site works meeting client briefs.
• Prepare proposals, work scopes, pricing and programming.
• Review and approve method statements, risk assessments, and CAD outputs.
• Coordinate supervision of sub-contractors and third parties during site work.
• Ensure project governance, administration and management tasks are delivered.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior staff and support their career development.
