Principal Structural Integrity Engineer

Location: Derby

Your future team: Due to increasing demands in the defence industry for new plant, equipment, and life extension programs, our structural integrity team is expanding. We seek a technical leader to drive growth, mentor engineers, and shape future leaders.

Your Missions:

• Serve as the expert for Structural Integrity, troubleshoot issues, review analyses, and represent Assystem in client meetings.
• Act as an Independent Technical Approver, ensuring high standards.
• Use Finite Element Analysis and hand calculations to verify structural integrity to international standards, including pressure vessel and defect tolerance codes.
• Collaborate with safety case authors and engineering teams.
• Contribute to bids, proposals, and strategic initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers to develop the next generation of integrity professionals.

Qualifications & Requirements

We want someone who can:

• Lead on structural integrity with modern techniques.
• Own assessments using top tools and standards.
• Mentor and lead technically.
• Work directly with clients to solve problems.
• Be an expert in FE analysis for strength, fatigue, defects, and service life.
• Have experience in ASME III/VIII, API-579, BS7910, BS7608 (R3/R5/R6 a plus).
• Bonus: experience in CFD, dynamics, fatigue, degradation mechanisms.
• Must have nuclear sector experience.

Your toolbox should include:

• Engineering degree + CEng.
• Experience in nuclear SSC assessments.
• Strong communication and commercial awareness.
• Expertise in ABAQUS (or ANSYS, Dyna, etc.).
• Familiarity with code assessments (ASME, PD5500, BS2573, BS EN 13001).
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods, materials, inspections.
