Job summary

Strata Consulting, a well‑established engineering consultancy, is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer for its Sheffield office. You will lead major structural projects, mentor engineers and guide technical excellence while shaping the future direction of the team.

You will manage client relationships, oversee budgets and resources, and contribute to business development across diverse sectors. The role suits a proactive leader with Chartered status or near chartership and strong design

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Chartered (CEng / MIStructE / MICE) or close to chartership.
• Significant experience delivering structural engineering projects in a consultancy environment.
• Strong technical proficiency in structural design and analysis software.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to guide teams.
• Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets and resources.
• A proactive, collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage structural engineering projects from concept through delivery.
• Provide technical leadership on building structures across materials such as steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
• Prepare, review and approve structural calculations, design reports and drawings.
• Manage and mentor engineers and technicians within the team.
• Oversee project resources, budgets, timelines and quality standards.
• Engage with clients, architects, contractors and stakeholders to build strong professional relationships.
• Support business development, bids and proposal writing.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, design codes and health & safety practices.
