Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers in Manchester, UK, seeks an experienced Structural Principal Engineer to lead complex design across regulated infrastructure projects. You will act as technical authority, mentor engineers, and shape how engineering is delivered within a growing consultancy.

The role combines hands-on principal design and checks with discipline-wide standards, governance, and CPD planning. Chartered status and a track record in regulated sectors are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of structural design experience at senior/principal level.
• Degree or HND in Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status.
• Experience in regulated sectors such as water, rail, highways/bridges, oil and gas, or nuclear.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards, design practices and construction methods.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong IT and digital design capability.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Taking ownership of structural engineering design input across multidisciplinary projects.
• Leading design delivery, technical assurance and governance activities.
• Reviewing design deliverables, DRAs, reports and technical specifications.
• Directing and supporting engineers, CAD technicians and graduates.
• Maintaining technical standards and ensuring compliance with sector specifications.
• Leading design reviews, client meetings and technical discussions.
• Providing guidance for projects and tenders and driving continuous improvement.
