Job summary

A leading consultancy is looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to guide structural design and delivery on complex MOD projects throughout the UK. This position involves managing teams and ensuring compliance with security protocols while working on innovative defence infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Experience in defence, nuclear or regulated sectors required.
• Eligible for or holding MOD Security Clearance (SC).
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Structural Engineer to join a leading consultancy delivering complex, high-security MOD and defence infrastructure projects across the UK.

The Role

You’ll lead structural design and project delivery across a portfolio of high-profile defence projects, working on both building structures and heavy civil engineering. This includes inspections, assessments, and detailed designs in secure and regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver structural engineering design for MOD projects
• Manage teams, budgets, and project programmes
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and design documentation
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and security protocols

Requirements

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered status (CEng) with ICE or IStructE
• Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and UK design standards
• Experience in defence, nuclear, or similarly regulated sectors
• Eligible for or holding MOD Security Clearance (SC)
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
• Experience with seismically qualified structures or heavy civil works
• Background in digital engineering or BIM
