Role Description

We are expanding our Structural Engineering team within the Places Design Practice. We seek a Principal Structural Engineer based in the UK, with a strong technical background and experience leading structural projects. Our work spans various sectors, including industrial manufacturing, technology, education, government, and defense, with projects at both national and international levels.

You will be involved in designing iconic structures, including data centers, manufacturing facilities, offices, schools, and public buildings. Your role includes providing technical design and advisory services throughout project stages for new and existing buildings.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of structural elements across multiple projects.
• Manage technical and commercial aspects of projects, leading teams of structural engineers and BIM modellers.
• Interface with clients and stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Participate in quality assurance processes, reviewing work of team members.
• Mentor engineers and colleagues, sharing expertise and fostering development.

Qualifications & Experience

• Relevant degree in engineering or related field.
• Professional qualification, preferably chartered with IStructE or ICE.
• Deep knowledge of structural principles and extensive project experience.
• Familiarity with structural materials and their practical application.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
• Strong commitment to health and safety, with knowledge of legal standards.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in technical reporting.
• Attention to detail, with a quality-focused review process.
• Interest in sustainable design and outcomes.
• Proven ability to manage teams and resources effectively.
• Willingness to mentor and share knowledge.
