Job summary

Hippo, based in Leeds, is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead strategic technical directions across multiple squads and drive innovation in data, design and engineering. You will shape architectures, oversee pipelines, and collaborate with executive stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable digital services.

You will mentor senior engineers, champion best practices, and help grow the Hippo Engineering Herd globally while travelling to client sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Mastery of multiple modern programming languages and extensive engineering experience across diverse technology stacks.
• Leadership of multiple delivery streams delivering enterprise-scale, technology-agnostic solutions.
• Exceptional communication to influence both technical and executive audiences.
• Experience with full development lifecycle of user-centred digital solutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical guidance across squads as a high-level SME.
• Design and deliver innovative solutions to complex client problems.
• Oversee and optimise software development and deployment pipelines.
• Prioritise multi-team workloads aligning with operational priorities.
• Represent Hippo’s technical vision to stakeholders.
• Drive engineering standards and succession planning.
