Job summary

Instil is seeking experienced Principal Software Engineers to solve complex problems and guide delivery of scalable systems. You’ll design and build software using Java, Python, C#/.NET and TypeScript, and mentor engineers across teams.

Role involves cloud/native development on AWS, Azure or GCP, driving architectural decisions and promoting best practices. Hybrid working is offered with occasional Belfast office attendance in Northern Ireland.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building production systems using Java, Python, C#/.NET or TypeScript.
• Significant experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure or GCP also considered).
• Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, and scalable architectures.
• Experience building and consuming APIs (REST and event-based).
• Architectural decision-making and guiding complex projects.
• Full software delivery lifecycle experience (build, deploy, operate).
• Strong fundamentals and best practices in software engineering.
• Ability to take ownership and drive technical solutions end-to-end.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience mentoring engineers and teams.
• Interest in AI-enabled engineering and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and guide the delivery of software solutions across multiple languages.
