Job summary

Co-op is seeking a Principal Security Architect to lead the security architecture for applications and data. Based in Manchester with hybrid working, you’ll set standards, govern risk, and shape secure-by-design across cloud, APIs, and platforms.

You’ll guide threat modelling, security patterns, and governance, partnering with architects and engineers to deliver secure, scalable technology for Co-op’s services.

Qualifications

• Strong cloud-native architecture experience with API integration and microservices.
• Knowledge of security frameworks (NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK, OWASP) and DevOps security.
• Experience securing enterprise apps and large data platforms; GDPR awareness.
• Ability to influence senior partners and provide technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead application and data security architecture, setting standards and best practices.
• Embed secure-by-design across applications, platforms, APIs, cloud, and data services.
• Provide expert security guidance and assurance to the wider business.
• Lead threat modelling and risk-based decision-making on controls.
• Define security patterns for development, data protection, access, cryptography, and API security.
• Contribute to architecture governance, audits and regulatory reviews.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers to drive secure, resilient technology outcomes.
