Job Description
Principal Scientist – Enzymology
Cambridge
Permanent
SRG are currently supporting the search for a Principal Scientist with an expertise in enzymology.
You will be an inspirational scientist with an exceptional record of bringing your deep knowledge of enzymology and biochemistry to impact on projects. Within this role you will be brining scientific leadership to the design of biochemical assays and bespoke mechanistic data helping to characterise cancer targets.
The Role:
- Provide scientific leadership to define and implement best practice for biochemical assays and bespoke mechanism of action studies.
- Design and develop novel physiologically relevant biochemical assays for a range of target classes, using recombinant proteins
- Characterise cancer targets in detail at the molecular level
- Define biochemical profiling cascade to support characterisation of novel small molecules for oncology targets
- Characterise small molecules in vitro using recombinant proteins and a range of biochemical assay technologies, with a particular focus on detailed kinetic and mechanism of inhibition studies and their translation into the cellular environment.
- Represent the department across a broad range of projects and cross-site initiatives, both internally and externally.
- Prioritise own work and that of line reports according to project goals and take responsibility for the timely delivery of team objectives
- Manage performance and development of line reports
Requirements:

- Significant experience and deep expertise in enzymology in a drug discovery environment
- Detailed understanding of steady-state and pre-steady-state enzymology. Experience in Modelling and Simulation will be an advantage.
- Detailed theoretical and practical understanding of biochemical assays and detection technologies, with a particular focus on physiologically relevant systems
- Significant experience of assay development for a range of target classes
- Strong external reputation in enzymology, evidenced through wide personal network, external presentation and publication, and presentation at key conferences.
