Job Description

Job Title: Principal Safety & Environmental Engineer

Locations: Barrow-In-Furness, Portsmouth, BroadOak, Frimley, Weymouth, Plymouth, or Bristol

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience

What you’ll be doing

• Support the derivation and management of Product Safety requirements from hazard and risk identification
• Work in accordance with Project Safety Management Plans
• Influence the development of safe design, Safety Case, including technical safety arguments and justification reports
• Support hazard identification meetings and maintain the hazard log
• Perform peer reviews, checks, verification, and assurance tasks for Safety Case robustness

Your skills and experiences

• Understanding of engineering safety management processes (hazard analysis, safety case report)
• Knowledge of safety within systems engineering and engineering requirements delivery
• Understanding of ALARP principles and application
• Experience with systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Enterprise Architect)
• Experience in defence or complex systems involving software

The SSNA Combat System Team

As a Principal Engineer, you will support the development and maintenance of the Project Product Safety Management System and Safety Case, ensuring product safety and legality. You will join a team of about 50 engineers, collaborating from early project stages, influencing project progress, and developing your career within BAE Systems. Relocation support is available for eligible roles.
