TRL, a global leader in transport innovation, is seeking a Principal Safety Consultant to lead the delivery of complex safety projects across highways, public transport, and urban mobility. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on delivering high-impact consultancy for commercial and government clients.

The successful candidate can be based UK wide with some travel expected. Flexible working options for full or part-time employment are available.

What you’ll do:

1. Lead multi-disciplinary safety projects from strategy to delivery
2. Develop and oversee safety frameworks, audits, and training initiatives
3. Ensure quality assurance and compliance with relevant standards
4. Engage clients and stakeholders, translating needs into actionable plans
5. Mentor junior staff and support business development efforts

What we’re looking for:

1. Proven experience in transport safety
2. Deep knowledge of vehicle safety frameworks and risk-based decision-making
3. Strong project leadership, communication, and client engagement skills
4. Experience with public sector clients and transport agencies
5. Chartered or professionally qualified (e.g., CEng, MICE, IOSH) preferred
