Job Overview

We are looking for a Band 8b Principal Psychologist to cover maternity leave in the National Centre for Gaming Disorders for a period of 9 months from January 2025. The successful applicant will be required to work on Thursday and one other day (ideally Wednesday) every week.

The National Centre for Gaming Disorders

You will provide senior leadership and ensure the smooth running of the service.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

This post covers the day to day clinical leadership at the National Centre for Gaming Disorders. The postholder, with supervision and alongside the Service Manager, will lead the team of therapists providing support to patients and ensure the safe and effective running of the clinic.

The Postholder Will

  • Effectively communicate psychological knowledge to clinical colleagues and others to support wider clinical practice and enhance the quality of treatment and outcomes.
  • Be accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of highly specialist psychological care of clients with gaming disorder, and severe and enduring mental health.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the provision of effective teaching and training for all CNWL Addictions staff. To provide expert advice, clinical supervision and training.
  • Represent, where needed, psychology services in external and Trust meetings, in conjunction with operational managers.
  • Work effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, understanding the process of change in services and implementation of innovation within systems. Working with a range of professionals, service users and carers to facilitate involvement in service planning and delivery.
  • Understand ethical issues, applying these in complex clinical contexts, ensuring that informed consent underpins all contact with service users and others. Understanding the impact of difference and discrimination on peoples lives and its implications for clinical practices.
  • Promote and use psychological knowledge to support service developments and reflective practice, and promote healthy organisational functioning, policies and procedures.
