The Vacancy

Ready to take the lead on complex highways infrastructure projects and have real ownership of how they’re delivered? SCP Infrastructure is looking for an experienced Principal Project Manager to join our team in Scotland. This is a senior, hands‑on role for someone who enjoys bringing people together, keeping projects moving and building strong relationships with clients.

You’ll lead multidisciplinary infrastructure projects from initial brief through to completion, taking responsibility for programme, commercial performance, risk, resources and client relationships. Just as importantly, you’ll help develop the people around you and contribute to how we continually improve the way we deliver projects.

What you’ll be doing
  • Leading infrastructure projects from initiation through to successful completion
  • Managing programmes, budgets, resources, risk and project performance
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating technical delivery
  • Managing commercial performance, including forecasting, WIP, invoicing and change
  • Working with contracts such as NEC and JCT, including Early Warnings and Compensation Events
  • Identifying and resolving project risks, issues and delivery challenges
  • Preparing fee proposals and supporting bids and work-winning activity
  • Ensuring projects meet quality, SHEQ and governance requirements
  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues, including developing the next generation of Project Managers
What we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have a background in civil engineering, highways, transport or infrastructure consultancy, with strong experience managing projects through their full lifecycle.

You’ll bring:
  • Proven project management experience within infrastructure, engineering or a consultancy environment
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple projects
  • Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting, forecasting and fee management
  • Confidence managing clients, stakeholders and contractual change
  • Knowledge of NEC, JCT or similar contracts
  • Experience with project planning and financial management systems such as MS Project and CMap, or similar
  • Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills
  • A collaborative approach and genuine interest in developing others

A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, highways, infrastructure or a related discipline is preferred. Professional accreditation and qualifications such as APM PFQ/PMQ, ICE or CIHT would advantageous, but we’re equally interested in strong practical experience.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to step into an influential project leadership role where you can take genuine ownership of delivery while working with an experienced infrastructure team.

The package includes:
  • £50,000–£60,000 salary
  • 8% employer pension contribution
  • 35-hour working week
  • Hybrid working – 3 days in the office and 2 from home
  • Scotland-based role, within commuting distance of Edinburgh

If you’re an experienced Project Manager looking for greater responsibility, varied infrastructure work and the opportunity to help shape successful project delivery, we’d love to hear from you.
