In the words of the team, you should leave your current role for this one because….

You’ll play a lead role in the shift to app as our flagship channel to aid the transition of OVO as an energy company to a decarbonisation business. You’ll influence product and business strategy and directly influence c-suite executives.

Everyone belongs at OVO

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

Our vision is to create simple, connected and beautiful experiences that deliver for our customers, planet and business. We do the heavy lifting so our customers don’t have to. We remove complexity, solving for today, tomorrow and the future. We join the dots across the entire customer journey, connecting the offline and online and ensure a seamless experience across our product ecosystem. We care about the details – On every screen from each pixel to the last letter. We weave together our brand voice, sweating the details, even when people aren’t looking.

This role in a nutshell:

We are seeking an accomplished Principal Product Designer with expertise in mobile patterns, prototyping, information architecture, and visual design. As a key member of our team, you will be a visual storyteller, capable of presenting to diverse audiences, including C-suite executives.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Transforming OVO’s app experience to become our flagship channel through scalable information architecture, polished UI and design details
  • Defining signature moments which delight and inspire our customers to take the right actions
  • Prototype, iterate and evolve experiences through lean and agile ways of working
  • Elevate UX thinking, design craftsmanship and creative flair across the entire UX team
  • Contribute to strategy, lead on cross-domain initiatives and be the glue between teams
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering leadership to drive tangible results for our customers
  • Partner with other members of the UX Leadership team to drive forward team-wide initiatives.

Within your first 3 months month you’ll:

  • Have settled in, gotten to know your team and key stakeholders with a solid grounding in our strategy and business goals
  • Made positive steps to improve the design of our mobile app, contributing to our design system along the way.
  • Crafted narratives which lead and inspire your team and those around you, conveying key design decisions and impact on our customers, planet and business.

You’ll be a successful Principal Product Designer at OVO if you…

  • Have a rich portfolio of work demonstrating design of apps for both iOS and Android
  • A product thinker - you care about why you’re designing something and what impact it will have for the customer and business .
  • Customer-obsessed, using data and research to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Obsessed about the details, whilst having a birds eye view of how everything connects
  • Are fluent in mobile best practices and know when to reuse existing patterns versus going custom. And importantly, you know chips, toasts, and snack bars are more than just tasty treats.
  • A brilliant communicator - you can explain and rationalise the reasons for your design decisions and can give and receive constructive feedback.

Let’s talk about what’s in it for you

We’ll pay you between £90,000-£105,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.

We also offer plenty of green benefits and progressive policies to help you feel like you belong at OVO…and there’s flex pay. It’s an extra 9% of your salary on top of your core pay to use as you like. You can take it as cash, add to your pension, or choose to spend it on a huge range of flex benefits.

Here’s a taster of what’s on offer:

For starters, you’ll get 34 days of holiday (including bank holidays).
