Job summary

RED Engineering Design Limited, part of Engie Group, seeks an experienced Power Systems Engineer in the UK to deliver design, analysis, and coordination for data centres, utilities and renewable projects. You will work across HV/MV studies, perform load flow and protection coordination, and lead a multi-disciplinary design team.

You will use ETAP/PSS/E/PSCAD, model protection schemes, and contribute to tenders, bids and client engagements while ensuring compliance with UK standards and energy

Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng in electrical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3–10 years of power systems engineering experience (seniority varies).
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, SKM, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Experience with building/campus scale services and decentralised renewable power generation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyse electrical power systems including generation, transmission, distribution, and protection networks.
  • Perform load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and power quality studies.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, and arc flash analyses.
  • Size and specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, cables, and busbars.
  • Lead the design team for HV/MV substations with cross-disciplinary coordination.
  • Model and simulate power systems using ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD for various analyses.
  • Conduct relay coordination and protection system design.
  • Evaluate system reliability using Fault Tree analysis.
  • Produce engineering deliverables and review vendor submittals.
  • Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
  • Engage with Engie/Tractebel units to deliver projects and promote sustainable solutions.
  • Travel across regions and to client sites as required.

We now seek a fully experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our Bicester office.

Role Responsibilities

Design and analyseelectrical power systems including generation, transmission, distribution, and protection networks

Perform load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and power quality studies

Develop single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, and arc flash analyses

Size and specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, cables, andbusbars

Lead the design team for a HV/MV sub-stationincluding coordinationof other disciplinesincluding civil, mechanical, and control systems engineersin order toprovide a turnkeypackageat concept and detailed design stages

Understandingsoftwaretools (e.g., ETAP,PFD, PSCAD, etc.) to model and simulate power systemsforharmonic analysis, RMS, EMTand power factor correction studies

Conduct relay coordination and protection system design

Evaluate system reliability using methods such asFaultTree analysis

Develop engineering deliverables including calculations, specifications, and equipment data sheets

Support procurement by reviewing vendor submittals and technical bid evaluations

Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup phases

Work with theCentralEngineering and R&D teamstoassistwith incorporatingnew technologiesand tools into the Energy Transition market

Undertake site visitsof existing installationsfor the purposesofproposingremedial solutionsand commercial bids.

Maintain knowledge of the latest technologies and regulationsrelating to demand side reduction, renewable energy generation,energy storage and electricity grid connections and initiatives.

Promote both within Red andexternally,knowledge of the latest technologies and regulations relating to demand side reduction, renewable energy generation, energy storage and electricity grid connections and initiatives.

Create,developand build long-term professional customer relationships with existing,newand potential clientsthrough networking, socialmediaand attending industry events.

Be abletocomprehend, analyse, and interpretvarious typesof business documents such as complex and lengthy RFP documents with detailed SOW.

Solve problems involvingdifferenttechnical and/or managementoptionswhen demanded by differentsituations, using wherever possibleexisting company toolsor tools within the wider ENGIE group.

Help to buildcredibility and trust quickly with C-Level executives/decision makersfor new and existing clients.

Ensure commercial documentation such as NDAs MSAs and Ts and Cs are negotiated, agreed and valid on an ongoing basis.

Coordinate theinternalENGIE and Tractebelnetwork of multi-disciplinedteams toprovide the most effective inter-company teamsforopportunities

Representthe company at technical meetings with customers, professionalteamsand contractors’teams

Understand and comply in fullwithcompany governance and due diligence as per theRedcompany guidelines.

Production of technical white papers to promote the technical capabilities of Redin the sustainable infrastructure domain.

Raise the company and business profile byrepresentingRED Engineering Design at industry events and promoting an image of professionalism always.

Willingness totravel and act autonomously across amulti culturalregion with integrity and professionalism at all times

Flexible to work outside core office hours from time to time, and to travel across regions asrequired.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be detail conscious and methodical in approach.

Role Requirements

BSc/BEng inappropriate engineeringdisciplinesuch as mechanical, electrical or process engineeringor have sufficient equivalent experience

Minimum 3–10 years of experience in power systems engineering (varies by seniority level)

Knowledge ofpower system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, SKM, or equivalent)

Strong knowledge of electrical standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NFPA 70E)

Achieved or working towards chartered status.

Experiencein the area ofbuilding / campus scale services as well as small scale power generation including co-generation, trigeneration and decentralised renewable power generation.

Experience with local infrastructures including microgrids, district heating and cooling schemes, energy centres and thermal or electrical storage

Experience of working in different industrial sectors such as manufacturing, petrochemical, Life Sciences, Data Centres, etc.

Experience with renewable energy systems (solar, wind, battery storage)

Familiarity with SCADA,EMS,protection relays, and substation automation

Knowledge of grid interconnection standards and utility coordination

Experience with high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) systems

Sound knowledge & working application of key health and safety issues and legislation

Appreciation & working knowledge of contract and business law

Knowledge of MS office applicationsWord,Exceletc

Flexible and self-motivational approach to work

Ability to use IT” based calculation and spreadsheet software

Good understanding of Britishand EUstandards/ UK regulations/codes
