Role Overview
The role involves supporting the effective renewal and regeneration of the London Borough, leading the preparation and management of planning performance agreements, and managing a caseload of strategic planning applications that deliver significant investment within the Borough. Recommendations will be made to the Planning Committee.
Role Dimensions
- Supervision of projects as required.
- Training and mentoring of junior staff.
- Support the efficient management of the annual workload for the Development Management teams, currently handling approximately 5,000 planning applications and 100 appeals per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction of Planning Solicitors on enforcement and related matters.
- Handling general enquiries from elected Members, prospective developers, and the public regarding development management issues.
- Supporting the Policy Section in the preparation, monitoring, and review of the Local Development Framework.
- Collaborating with the Council's Landscape Group on Tree Preservation Orders and cases concerning tree felling, lopping, or topping under relevant legislation.
- Representing the Development Management Service at meetings with other departments, statutory bodies, developers, community groups, and the public.
- Performing other duties as required, which are consistent with the grade and level of the post.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of current Development Management practices, procedures, and legislation.
- Proficiency in ICT and specialist planning software.
- Experience with complex planning applications and appeals.
- Experience in committee presentations.
- Staff management and development skills.
- Experience managing planning applications in project-managed environments.
Qualifications
- Degree or professional qualification in Town Planning or related field.
- Chartered Member of the RTPI or equivalent.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
