Job summary

Cnuic Technologies in Edinburgh is seeking a principal-level Member of Technical Staff to own the system design as the technology moves from lab demo to a manufacturable product. You will integrate optics, opto-mechanics, electronics, thermal management and software into a cohesive system, handling alignment, noise control and environmental stability.

The role spans requirements, architecture, trade-offs, verification and qualification, with hands-on work in the lab, cleanroom and packaging,

Qualifications

• Degree or PhD in physics or optical engineering.
• Experience in optical design and system integration.
• Lab experience building low-noise optical systems.

Responsibilities

• Requirements & Architecture: decompose into optical, opto-mechanical, electronic, thermal and software specs.
• Performance budgets & trade studies for throughput, wavefront, alignment, noise, drift and SWaP.
• Interface management and interface-control documentation.
• Integration & packaging of lasers, optics, detectors, electronics and mechanics.
• Verification & qualification: IVVQ, test plans and environmental testing.
• Risk management: de-risking experiments and documenting key decisions.
• Lead grant-funded systems engineering work packages and cross-disciplinary coordination.
