We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Principal Operations Manager to join our dynamic Northern Ireland team in Lurgan.

In this role you will report to and support the Account Manager for the account’s revenue of up to £10M. This role would suit a candidate with experience managing major contracts/projects within the highways or/and any other civil engineering sectors.

What You’ll Do

  • Operational Leadership: Lead and manage a team of 30 highway maintenance professionals, ensuring effective execution of maintenance activities and adherence to safety standards. Supervising shift supervisors and ensuring contractually compliant routine maintenance services and proficient in managing both day and night shifts.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and evaluate the performance of maintenance operations, implementing improvements and innovations to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Contract Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to contractual obligations, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.
  • Budget Management: Reviewing budgets and forecasts for a consistent and challenging yet achievable approach. Assisting in bids, planning, and innovation projects.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure effective communication, alignment of goals and bolster operational delivery.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational risks, implementing proactive measures to prevent incidents and accidents.
  • Continuous Improvement: Enhancing service delivery excellence by maximizing efficiency, sharing best practices, and identifying profit improvement opportunities.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Champion sustainable practices and environmental initiatives in highway maintenance operations.

Candidate Requirements

  • Be able to take and be accountable for decisions within the contract and understand commercial contracts
  • You must have a clear understanding of the industry and market
  • You will have experience in senior leadership who possesses a solid grasp of highway maintenance standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Knowledgeable in high-speed road compliance with Chapter 8 and operator license regulations.
  • A strong dedication to safety and sustainability is a must-have trait for this role.
  • Previous experience managing substantial budgets and navigating complex contracts within highways.
  • Have previous experience and ability to manage, develop and motivate teams

Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered or progressing
  • 3rd level qualification
  • CSR Platinum or equivalent
  • IOSH Managing Safely
