Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the United Kingdom seeks a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer to lead safety case development for major defence and nuclear projects. You will shape strategy, work with partners, and coordinate with regulators while supporting engineering substantiation.

The role requires an Honours degree (2:1) in physics or mechanical engineering, Chartered status or active pursuit, and a track record in safety within regulated sectors. Hybrid working and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in safety, ideally within defence and nuclear.
• Honours degree in physics or mechanical engineering (2:1 minimum).
• Chartered or working towards Chartership.
• Technical practitioner in Nuclear/Defence with strong engineering judgement.
• Able to engage with stakeholders and operate in a hybrid/remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety case strategy and delivery.
• Collaborate with project partners to ensure safety-informed design.
• Engage with stakeholders including designers, client, site, and regulatory body.
• Undertake safety assessments and safety analyses (HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, HAZAN).
• Produce safety reports and other technical documents (PSR, PCSR, ALARP).
• Support Engineering Substantiation activities.
• Manage and lead Safety Case activities and teams.
