Job summary

A Principal Mechanical Engineer Building Services position with Allscreens Nationwide Ltd. Lead the design and specification of mechanical building services across healthcare, education and commercial sectors. You will review designs, run calculations using IES and CAD, and support junior engineers on project deliverables.

The role emphasizes strong report writing, client liaison, and delivering robust design solutions in a reputable multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Ideally chartered or working towards chartership with CIBSE or IET.
• 5–10 years’ experience in a design consultancy or similar environment.
• Knowledge of mechanical design within the built environment.
• Strong report writing skills and ability to present to clients.

Responsibilities

• Design and specification of mechanical building services systems per briefs.
• Prepare and review designs, specifications and survey reports.
• Carry out detailed calculations using industry tools such as IES and CAD.
• Conduct site surveys, inspections and monitor works.
• Develop junior engineers and contribute to project deliverables.
• Prepare technical reports and notes.

Principal Mechanical Engineer Building Services

A very reputable large multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with multiple offices throughout the UK. They are currently engaged in a number of projects ranging in size across Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Mixed-Use and more. Highly technical and well experienced senior management with clear plans outlined for staff development and progression. Trusting and flexible working environment. Role

• Ensuring an understanding of project briefs. Design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems.
• Preparation and review of documentation eg designs, specifications, assessment reports, survey reports.
• Carry out (managing of others) in the production of detailed calculations using industry standard software tools including Excel, CAD, IES, in house developed tools tec,
• Site surveys, inspections and monitoring of site works
• Implementation of detailed surveys of mechanical services and equipment to establish status of the existing installations and gain sufficient information to recommend new/upgrade design proposal
• Assisting with the development of junior engineers
• Report and technical note writing

Qualifications/Experience

• Degree qualified or equivalent qualification in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
• Ideally chartered or working towards this with CIBSE or IET.
• 5-10 years experience working in a design consultancy or a similar envrionment.
• Knowledge of mechanical design within the built environment.
• Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with clients.
• Detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards, able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative.
• Good level of computer literacy in a range of digital tools such as IES thermal modelling package, Microscoft packages, CAD
