Job summary

Orion Electrotech - Engineering & Technical is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead design activities across the full product lifecycle for avionics and engine sensors within a well-established aerospace engineering environment.

The role requires eligibility for security clearance, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and strong 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks/Autodesk Inventor). Hybrid site-based work is available when feasible.

Qualifications

• Security clearances must be obtainable for the role.
• UK National status is required due to project and security restrictions.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience.
• Experience authoring, validating and verifying engineering requirements; mentoring Mechanical Engineers.

Responsibilities

• Managing requirements, demonstrating compliance and supporting verification activities.
• Supporting Mechanical Engineers across cross-functional engineering projects.
• Designing and developing avionics products and engine sensors throughout the product lifecycle.

We're working with a well-established aerospace engineering organisation looking to add a Principal Mechanical Engineer to their team. This Principal Mechanical Engineer role offers the opportunity to join a company known for developing advanced avionics products and engine sensing technologies for the aerospace sector. You'll be joining a collaborative engineering environment where innovation, quality and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything they do.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll work across the full product development lifecycle, taking ownership of design activities while supporting colleagues and driving engineering excellence.

Role and Responsibilities

• Managing requirements, demonstrating compliance and supporting verification activities
• Supporting Mechanical Engineers across cross-functional engineering projects
• Designing and developing avionics products and engine sensors throughout the product lifecycle
• Producing work estimates and supporting project planning activities

Key Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain any security clearances required for the role
• UK National status is required due to project and security restrictions
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience
• Experience authoring, validating and verifying engineering requirementsPrevious experience leading or mentoring Mechanical Engineers
• Strong 3D CAD and 2D draughting experience, ideally using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
• Experience with GD&T, Design FMEA and engineering change management

• Salary: £55K - £65K
• Working arrangements: Site-based position with potential for one day per week working from home when work permits. 8am until 4:30pm Mon to Thurs and 8am until 1pm on Friday
