About Us
The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.
The Role – Overview
As Principal Mechanical Engineer you will be based at the NLB’s Headquarters within the New Town of central Edinburgh with a requirement to travel on a regular basis to the NLB Oban base as well as to lights around Scotland and the Isle of Man. This may involve travel by a combination of land, air (including helicopter) and sea.
You will be accountable for technical oversight (design authority, maintenance specification, renewals and fault analysis) of all NLB Lighthouse, and Buildings’ mechanical systems (lens mechanisms, generators, access at height system, fixed firefighting, lifting equipment, etc) and plant, Oban base plant (cranes, forklifts, heli fuelling, hydro blasting & painting systems, etc) and buoyage. You are also responsible for setting competency and training requirements for mechanical technicians.
