Job summary

MBDA is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to lead the Manufacturing Engineering focus within the Industrial Transfer Team.

The role will drive live build activities, develop manufacturing transfer strategies, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Lead Manufacturing Engineering within the Industrial Transfer Team for live builds and transfer campaigns.
• Support bid generation for Manufacturing Industrial Transfer campaigns and develop robust bids.
• Collaborate with Industrial Transfer PM to deliver manufacturing transfer programmes.
• Identify required support functions to enable a successful Industrial Transfer programme.
• Deliver industrial manufacturing transfer programmes in line with business and customer expectations.
• Interface with external stakeholders to ensure smooth transfer and governance.

Job description

This position will be responsible for providing the Manufacturing Engineering focus within the Industrial Transfer Team representing the department at various forums to engage with key stakeholders and promote the department.

Salary: Circa £47,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

An exciting new opportunity has become available within the Industrial Transfer Team for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join the team.

The opportunity also allows an individual to grow their knowledge within manufacturing as part of development into potential future opportunities. This role will give an individual into the front end aspects of the business from initial bids through to delivery and also be both internally and externally focussed.

The tasks will be both tactical and strategic providing stretched objectives for personal growth and appreciation of the wider business.

• Extensive knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering
• Support to the bid generation for Manufacturing Industrial Transfer campaigns.
• Working alongside the Industrial Transfer PM to generate a robust Bids for Manufacturing
• Identification of supporting function requirements to ensure a successful Industrial Transfer programme
• Delivery of Industrial Manufacturing Transfer Programmes i.a.w. business and customer expectations
• Interface between the external stakeholders and the Manufacturing organisation to ensure a smooth and efficient transfer programme is achieved
• Defining the Manufacturing Industrial Transfer operating principles and procedures
• Ability to write reports and technical assessments of current and future proposals

As this role will be Live Build focused the individual will also be required to maintain a level of competence and knowledge base of Live Build Support To Operations. This involves but not limited to

• Supporting development/production manufacturing lines, translating design requirements into user instructions including the development of the project manufacturing architecture.
  • Support existing manufacturing lines and new product introduction
  • Support the industrial validation process through the use of FMEA's, process proving activities etc.
  • Management of configuration control by the embodiment of design modifications into the manufacturing documentation and industrial validation
  • Support the non-conformance process
  • Ensure products are produced with consideration to safety, efficiency and economic factors
  • Assume the responsibilities for safe operating implementation for changed processes, including liaising with COSHH assessors, SHE and Human Factors
  • Liaise with the design authority during the product prototype/development phase, to ensure optimised Design for Manufacture (DfM)
  • Compilation and update of Manufacturing Instructions maintaining production BOMs
  • Tooling development and control

What we're looking for from you:

Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3/TR23/TR21

AND

Formal further education certificate to HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject

OR

Degree in relevant Engineering subject

• Must demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving and commitment to work to meet our delivery milestones.
• Have the ability to interpret Design Drawings with a view to producing Manufacturing Build Instructions.
• Must be able to work within and contribute to a team environment.
• Awareness of digital communication platforms to work and communicate effectively within the workplace.
