Job summary

WSP, a global engineering firm, is seeking a Principal Lighting Engineer to join the Lighting & Energy Solutions team in the UK. The role leads multi-disciplinary lighting projects, coordinating design layouts, feasibility studies and client communications across public and private sectors.

You will mentor junior staff and help build industry relationships. You will demonstrate deep knowledge of external lighting standards, asset management, and risk-aware planning, with proficiency in Lighting

Qualifications

• Experience leading projects and teams in a management role.
• Broad knowledge of external lighting and electrical design standards, guidance, legislation and regulations.
• Experience in lighting maintenance operations and asset management.
• Ability to design from conception to issue for construction using Lighting Reality or Dialux and AutoCAD.
• Risk awareness in CDM and financial risk; capable of mitigation.
• Ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational, analytical and communication skills.
• Capable of coaching and developing junior team members.
• Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
• Knowledge of external lighting products.
• Membership of a relevant professional organisation and working towards CEng status.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and teams to deliver lighting design across sectors.
• Coordinate detailed design layouts, drawings and supporting docs.
• Prepare feasibility reports, optioneering notes and specifications.
• Mobilise and progress against programme milestones and budget constraints.
• Engage with local authorities and road network clients to build relationships.
• Analyse client briefs and provide expert guidance and tailored support.
• Support delivery teams and Early Career Professionals' development.
• Represent WSP in the lighting industry and drive business development.
