Job summary

WSP Global Inc. is seeking a Principal Lighting Engineer to join its Lighting and Energy Solutions team in the UK.

The role involves leading multidisciplinary projects, coordinating detailed designs, and ensuring QA compliance while engaging with Local Authority and strategic road clients. You will mentor junior colleagues, contribute to technical proposals, and uphold high standards of lighting design from concept to construction using industry-standard tools.

Qualifications

• Experience leading projects and teams in lighting design.
• Knowledge of external lighting and electrical design standards and regulations.
• Experience in lighting maintenance operations and asset management.
• Competency in lighting design from conception through issue for construction using Dialux/Lighting Reality and AutoCAD.
• Risk awareness in CDM and financial risk; able to mitigate.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; strong organizational and communication skills.
• Capable of coaching junior team members.
• Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
• Good knowledge of external lighting products; membership of a relevant professional organisation; pursuing CEng status.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and teams within Lighting & Energy Solutions.
• Coordinate detailed design layouts, drawings and support documentation per QA and client requirements.
• Prepare feasibility reports, optioneering reports and specifications.
• Oversee project proposals and monitor against program milestones and budget.
• Engage with Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients.
• Analyze briefs and provide expert guidance and tailored support.
• Mentor and develop delivery team members including early career professionals.
• Represent WSP in the lighting industry and drive business development.
