Job summary

Avon and Somerset Police is seeking a Principal Analyst for the SWROCU to provide strategic leadership for intelligence, analysis and research and to shape the organisation's intelligence strategy. You will lead a team of analysts, work with senior leaders and national networks, and drive innovation in analytical standards to inform tactical and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience
• The post holder will be required to hold and maintain IPP Accreditation
• Hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force / region area using alternative transport
• Extensive experience of intelligence analysis processes and intelligence led policing approaches
• Extensive experience of structured analytical techniques, inference development and hypothesis testing
• Significant experience in management of leading analytical and researcher teams
• Strong understanding of the strategic, operational and evidential environment
• Proven ability to use a range of communication and influencing techniques and methods to successfully negotiate, collaborate and/or effect change and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
• Significant experience in allocating resources appropriately for the analytical function to make risk‑based decisions that deliver effective outcomes within the available budget
• Proven experience to deliver change that reshapes the analytical function, to deliver appropriate responses to emerging trends and issues
• Ability to lead, develop and motivate a diverse team; creating strong engagement with the function’s performance objectives and with Force values and behaviours.
• Knowledge of relevant investigative legislation (e.g. IPA, CPIA, GDPR).
• Previous analytical experience and / or of working within a law enforcement environment
• Previous experience of Court and of presenting evidential analytical products
• Experience of evidential analysis products

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Intelligence, Analysis and research function ensuring high-quality analytical products inform decision-making at tactical, operational and strategic levels
• Shape and deliver the organisation’s intelligence strategy, lead a team of specialist Analysts and researchers
• Work closely with senior leaders, partners and national policing networks to identify emerging threats, risks and opportunities
• Drive innovation, continuous improvement and professional standards across the analytical profession
• Ensure resources, technology and analytical capabilities are aligned to organisational priorities
• Act as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, influencing strategic direction and helping the organisation respond effectively to complex and evolving crime and intelligence challenges
