Principal ICT & Security Design Engineer – London

Location: London, UK

An international M&E consultancy is seeking a Principal ICT & Security Design Engineer to join its London office as part of its growing team supporting mission-critical and digital infrastructure projects across the EMEA region.

With a focus on high-performance and sustainable building environments, the role involves leading the delivery of ICT and security infrastructure solutions across the full lifecycle of complex projects—including hyperscale data centres and commercial developments.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and coordination of ICT systems including structured cabling, fibre optic networks, and containment infrastructure.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation: specifications, schematics, layout drawings, and procurement packages.
  • Carry out threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments (TVRAs) for client projects, integrating these into design strategy.
  • Advise clients on physical and digital security planning, including access control, biometrics, CCTV, and analytics systems.
  • Collaborate with MEP and architectural teams to ensure cohesive, integrated designs across all disciplines.
  • Support project delivery from early feasibility through to construction, ensuring compliance with standards and technical requirements.
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Oversee and review design outputs, including 2D CAD drawings and 3D BIM models.
  • Monitor developments in ICT/security technologies and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.

Role Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in ICT, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering; or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. CNIDP, HNC/HND, BICSI, CNet).
  • Minimum 4+ years’ experience in ICT infrastructure or security systems design.
  • Background in data cabling, IT networks, or multi-disciplinary consulting .
  • Previous experience delivering ICT design on data centres or large commercial buildings highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of structured cabling systems, LAN/WAN networks, Wi-Fi, telecoms, and power/data integration.
  • Experience with access control, CCTV design, and analytics-based security systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Office. Revit and Navisworks familiarity beneficial.
  • Good knowledge of UK and international ICT standards, including RIBA stages and BIM Level of Development (LOD).
  • Ability to produce and review design documentation with technical accuracy.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to lead meetings and liaise confidently with clients.
