Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting an experienced Principal Health & Safety Coordinator to join a Local Authority in Bristol on an initial 6-month contract. The role sits within the busy Construction Safety Team, supporting repairs and maintenance across about 28,000 council homes.

You will lead safety initiatives and guide delivery teams. The candidate will have senior H&S experience on construction sites, strong CDM knowledge, NEBOSH qualifications, and excellent communication to influence

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a senior construction health and safety role.
• Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and HSE legislation.
• Experience conducting construction site audits, inspections and contractor assessments.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist health and safety advice to construction teams, managers and contractors.
• Support and deputise for the Construction Safety Manager, ensuring compliance with legislation and HSE guidance.
• Oversee health and safety audits, site inspections and contractor performance reviews.
• Ensure CDM and wider health and safety compliance.
• Provide daily support to the Construction Safety Team.
• Promote a positive safety culture and drive continuous improvements.
• Challenge unsafe practices and work with delivery teams to improve standards.

Position

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Health & Safety Coordinator to join a Local Authority in Bristol on an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within a busy Construction Safety Team, supporting the delivery of repairs and maintenance services across approximately 28,000 council homes.

Key Responsibilities

• ·Provide specialist health and safety advice and guidance to construction teams, managers and contractors.
• ·Support and deputise for the Construction Safety Manager, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and HSE guidance.
• ·Oversee health and safety audits, site inspections and contractor performance reviews.
• ·Ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and wider health and safety requirements.
• ·Provide daily support and supervision to the Construction Safety Team.
• ·Promote a positive safety culture, identifying opportunities to improve standards and reduce risks.
• ·Challenge unsafe practices and work collaboratively with delivery teams to drive continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

• ·Proven experience in a senior construction health and safety role.
• ·Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and relevant HSE legislation.
• ·Experience conducting construction site audits, inspections and contractor assessments.
• ·Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge stakeholders.
• ·Relevant health and safety qualifications, ideally NEBOSH or equivalent.
• ·Previous local authority, housing or repairs and maintenance experience.
